Errors: Windows File Associations and Elluminate Live!

When you click a link to join an Elluminate Live! session from the Windows operating system, a small JNLP file is generated and downloaded into your computer’s temporary files folder. This file, called meeting.jnlp, requires an application called Java Web Start to launch.

However, it’s possible that JNLP files can become associated with other applications. If JNLP files are not associated properly with Java Web Start, Elluminate Live! will not open, and you’ll be unable to join the session. To correct this, you must reset certain settings in your computer. Instructions are below:

______________________________________________________________
Each file type on your computer is associated with an application that runs it. Files of type JNLP are run by Java Web Start. It is possible that for JNLP files to become associated with another application, causing it to open incorrectly. Because Java Web Start opens your Elluminate Live! session, when the JNLP files are associated incorrectly, Elluminate Live! cannot open.

To modify the file association on a computer so that JNLP files open with Java Web Start:

  1. Click on Start and select Control Panel from the Settings menu (or click Start and select Control Panel)
  2. Open the Folder Options control panel, and select the File Types tab.
  3. Locate JNLP on the list of registered file types and click on it once to highlight it.
  4. Click Change and select Java (TM) Web Start Launcher from the Open With list.
  5. Click OK and close the Folder Options control. JNLP files will now open, by default, with Java Web Start.

Try again to access your Elluminate Live! session.
