Error: Navigation to this Page has been Cancelled

Recently we have seen several Elluminate users at USF complain about an error they receive in Internet Explorer 8 (and sometimes in version 7) when they try to access an Elluminate session or recording. This is actually an Internet Explorer security issue and can be easily resolved.

The Problem:
When you click on an Elluminate session/recording link from within Blackboard at USF, you get the following error:
Navigation Cancelled Error

The Solution:
The appearance of the error is usually due to a choice that you actually make while browsing through Blackboard. This might even have happened when you clicked on the Elluminate link. The dialog box where you made the choice is below:
Security Warning

This is a new security warning box in Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft has reversed the wording from previous browsers and most (sane) error messages. Most users will click YES to the above question since you mostly agree when asked about whether you would like to see content that is not completely secure or you have to allow a program to be launched, etc. However, this warning is reversed. If you say Yes, you are agreeing to only see securely delivered content. Most of the content presented by Blackboard and other applications like Elluminate is not securely delivered, it is only authenticated using your netID (Blackboard). So when you say Yes, it cancels navigation to the page and the page does not load unless you close the browser (and all windows) and go to the session in a new browser window and go through the process of getting into the session again and CLICK NO this time. Then you should see the next page. The best solution to this issue is to NOT use Internet Explorer whenever possible and use Firefox instead.
