For those of you that really miss the Elluminate Virtual Office feature, while Elluminate Lite might be a close solution, you might find a better solution in Elluminate’s Free vRoom. Elluminate recently announced the availability of small vRoom’s to those interested in having small virtual offices. This is currently offered at no charge. To request these small (only 3 participants at a time) virtual offices from Elluminate go to http://www.elluminate.com/vroom/. Please note that this service is being provided directly via Elluminate and not by us at USF so we would not be able to provide any support for problems specific to this application. A vRoom has all the features of regular Elluminate Academic (including Application Sharing, Video chat, Breakout Rooms, etc.). However, recording is not possible in a vRoom.
If you use a vRoom, do let us know about your experience with it by sending an email to elluminate@lists.acomp.usf.edu
By the second week of February, we plan to have a lighter parallel (additional) version of Elluminate called Elluminate Lite available to faculty and students in addition to the current system. While the current system has a 100 concurrent user license, the Elluminate Lite service will have a 500 concurrent user license. This would enable us to create larger classes and create some virtual office spaces for faculty that really need them. While we would still require that you schedule times in Elluminate Lite in much the same way you do with the 100-license Elluminate Academic system, we could be more flexible with the amount of time scheduled (such as requesting every Wednesday to be office hours from 1PM to 4PM for 10 participants, for example), as we have more seats available in the Lite environment.
It is important to note, however that Elluminate Lite does not have all the features of Elluminate’s Academic Edition. Some prominent features that are missing include: Application Sharing, Video Chat, Recording, and Breakout Rooms. For a comparision of Elluminate Academic and Elluminate Lite, please go to http://www.elluminate.com/product_comparison.jsp to evaluate them side by side. When Elluminate Lite is functional, we will inform you via email. The form to request Elluminate Lite sessions will also be provided to you. Also, note that both systems will be available to you.
If you have any questions about Elluminate Lite, please email us at: elluminate@lists.acomp.usf.edu
The new Elluminate Session Request Page has been released!
To request sessions, you can now go to: http://www.c21te.usf.edu/sync/requests
Follow the brief 6-step process to request your Elluminate sessions(s).
In order to access the recording of your session and provide a link to your participants or those that missed the session and would like to view the recording, you will have to follow the steps below:
- During the session you will have to click the Record button (only available to the moderator) to record a session. The record button is the red button in the left corner of the Elluminate window (see the image below – button is highlighted in yellow).
- You can pause recording at any time during a session and resume recording at any time.
- Once you end the session, the recording will be saved on our Elluminate server. This may take some time depending on the length of the recording. We request that you record only required segments so as to conserve space on our servers.
- Usually in 24 hours or less (wait for at least 2 hours), your recording should be available to you. To access the recording:
- Visit http://elluminate.acomp.usf.edu
- Type your session moderator account User ID and Password (supplied to you in the email with the directions to access the sessions you requested) in the boxes to the right corner of the page and click the Log In button.
- Once you have logged in, click the Recordings tab to the left of the screen.
- Then select the date you held the recorded session in the calendar to the right of the page.
- To view a recording, you would simply click on the name of the session.
- To send a link to your participants, simply right-click on the name of the recording and select Copy Shortcut from the right-click menu (see image below)
- Then paste the shortcut into an email or in Blackboard for your students to access.
- When students click on the link, they would need the password of the session to access the recording. Please supply them with the password for your session as it was sent to you (the participant password is not the same as the session moderator password and is supplied to you in the email with the directions to access the sessions you requested).
Do let us know (email us at: elluminate@lists.acomp.usf.edu) if you have any other queries or if you have problems with this process.
The Elluminate Blog at USF will be available from January 16, 2007 once the transition to the new Elluminate system at USF is complete.
